Initial findings from the forensic investigation have shown that this was a targeted attack on the Register of Beneficial Owners at the Office of Justice. No further attacks on other systems have been identified. Nevertheless, as a precautionary measure, the Government has ordered that additional systems be temporarily taken offline for security reasons and to allow a careful review of any security vulnerabilities.

On Friday, 31 July 2026, the eMWST portal for value added tax and the electronic reporting and data exchange platform Lides had already been taken offline. On Monday, 3 August 2026, the Central Register of Accounts and the central tax administration system Intax followed. These are purely precautionary measures. There is no indication that unlawful access took place in these systems. All systems are now undergoing additional comprehensive security checks.

On Monday, 3 August 2026, the Government also remained in close contact with the business associations to discuss the impact of the cyberattack on an ongoing basis.

Investigations into how the attack was carried out are proceeding urgently. The Office of Information Technology is pressing ahead with analyses together with external partners, and the criminal prosecution authorities are now also active.

The Government will provide information on the latest findings at a press conference on Tuesday, 4 August 2026, at 2 p.m. In addition, a dedicated focus page has been set up on www.regierung.li, where all information is made available in one place.
