Needs Planning for Long-Term Care 2022

The Ministry of Social Affairs and Culture commissioned the report entitled "Needs Planning for Long-Term Outpatient and Inpatient Care 2022". Already in 2015 and 2019, needs planning of this kind had been prepared by external partners. The latest update models the needs scenarios in the inpatient sector (retirement and nursing homes), the outpatient sector (care and nursing at home), the intermediate sector, and care and nursing allowances for the years 2021 to 2050. The report also discusses developments in the care landscape and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

On the basis of the underlying data and assumptions, the key finding is that, depending on the scenario, a new retirement/nursing home will be required by 2027 (unchanged duration of care), 2026 (increased duration of care), or 2028 (reduced duration of care). This is approximately 1-2 years later than projected in the 2019 report.
